Hospital Indemnity Insurance
A hospitalization is often unexpected and can be expensive. With the average cost of a three-day stay at about $30,000,1 just a short hospitalization can leave you with substantial out-of-pocket costs—even if you have a robust Health insurance plan.
Highlights
Hospital indemnity (HI) insurance, issued by The Prudential Insurance Company of America, can help cover the costs of a hospital admission and stay that may not be covered by other insurance. It pays a lump-sum that you can use for both medical and non-medical expenses that accompany a hospitalization.
HI insurance:
- provides cash benefits for hospital admissions and hospital stays
- can help cover out-of-pocket costs like copays, deductibles, and more
- pays you directly, so you decide how benefits are spent
- is guaranteed—there are no medical questions or exams
HI insurance is designed to be used with—but not as a replacement for—your major medical insurance. You must have ACA-compliant health insurance to enroll.
